International Poetry Competition Castello Di Duino – 12th Edition 2016

The International Poetry Prize Castello di Duino in Trieste, organized by the cultural association “Poetry and Solidarity” in cooperation with the Collegio del Mondo Unito dell’Adriatico, with the support of UNESCO, Prince Carlo Alessandro della Torre e Tasso del Castello di Duino, the municipalities of Duino and Muggia, the CEI (Central European Initiative) and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Italy.The poetry contest is a major international competition that is organized every year to celebrate World Poetry Day. The contest is aimed at young people under 30 and has to date involved a total of about 11,000 people. The participation of Greece and Cyprus in the international competition started in 2009 on the initiative of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Italy, which – apart from organizational matters – takes care of sending the announcement to schools of all levels (in cooperation with the Ministries of Education in Greece and Cyprus), as well as cultural institutions concerned with poetry.

In last year’s event, which brought together 800 poems written in 75 different languages ​​and 60 schools, the poetry collection by the students of the Ionideiou Lab School of Piraeus (in the competition for schools) had the honor of being published in the Yearbook of the poetry contest. The same distinction was shown the young Greek poets Vanessa Kapnia and Konstantinos Galanis and the Cypriot poet Irene Charalambous (in the competition for unpublished poems).
