“The Culture of Integration” – Athens

American College of Greece, 6, Gravias Str., Ag. Paraskevi
Friday, 9 November 2018, 15:30 – 19:30

The “Culture of Integration” project, powered by the European Union National Institutes for Culture- EUNIC Cluster Athens is coming to an end with a final event which will take place on Friday 9 November 2018, from 15:30pmto 19:30pm, at the American College of Greece in Ag. Paraskevi.

The concept, design and implementation of the current project were inspired by the outcomes of the conference “European Values revisited: The role of Culture in refugee integration into local communities” that was co-organised by EUNIC Cluster Athens in November 2016.

The “Culture of Integration” project began in January 2017 in the midst of ongoing arrivals of refugees and migrants in Greece and was funded by EUNIC Global. It supported the implementation of targeted actions in the fields of “libraries, education and the arts”. The aim was to contribute to the social and cultural integration of the newly-arrived people as well as to support the local receiving communities in coping with the corresponding challenges.

Among other activities, children and youth actively participated in workshops about books, culture and music through which they familiarised themselves with European values. The results of all the funded actions will be presented during the final event as best practice examples aiming to raise awareness and to boost public dialogue on related issues.

The “Culture of Integration” project and final event have been co-organised by the Goethe-Institut Athen, the British Council, the House of Cyprus, the Austrian Embassy, the Norwegian Embassy, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hellenic Foundation of Culture, in cooperation with the American College of Greece and the support of the National Library of Greece.
